UKTV orders Monster Munchies from RDF TV
GOOD FOOD SUPERSIZES ITS SCHEDULE WITH MONSTER MUNCHIES
TV channel Good Food has commissioned a new series from RDF Television, which will celebrate Britain’s best food by supersizing traditional dishes. The large-scale series will premiere in Q4 2010 on Good Food.
The 10 x 60” was commissioned by UKTV' S Director of Commissioning, Jane Rogerson and was ordered by Good Food’s Channel Head, Richard Kingsbury, and UKTV’s Director of Lifestyle, Factual and New Media, Jane Mote.
Monster Munchies will be presented by Matt Dawson, the former English rugby union player and star of Good Food’s ‘Mitch and Matt’s Big Fish’. Dawson will be on a mission to travel across the UK, challenging locals to supersize a food item that their area is synonymous with. This will include serving up a larger than life cream tea in Devon the size of a car, a giant meal of sausage and mash in Cumbria and an enormous Cornish Pasty in Cornwall.
Once the food has been made and measured, local people will be able to tuck in and taste test their giant dishes. Celebrating the ingenuity, local spirit, and delicious taste of the area, not a mouthful will be wasted.
UKTV’s Director of Commissioning Jane Rogerson said: “Monster Munchies is a fun and entertaining series which will celebrate our national cuisine on a giant scale. It will engage both local communities and viewers of Good Food as they witness the supersized dishes taking shape and learn about their history along the way.”
UKTV’s Channel Head Richard Kingsbury said: “This series provides the mix of foodie discovery and great entertainment that epitomises what the Good Food channel is about. Monster Munchies will invite Good Food viewers to explore the origins of the nation’s most iconic foods and at the same time entertain them as the locals take on the challenge of supersizing them.”
Will Smith, Director of Programmes at RDF Television adds: “We are delighted to be working with Matt Dawson on this fun and challenging series. Finding local communities that are able to create traditional dishes on awe-inspiring proportions within a 24 hour time period is a really exciting proposition.”
Monster Munchies is overseen by UKTV's Commissioning Editor Tracy Forsyth, with RDF Television’s Will Smith as Executive Producer.
