Sky One commissions RDF to produce 12 x 60' episodes of US TV sensation Don't Forget the Lyrics
Sky One today (Thursday 6 December, 2007) announces the commission of a British version of RDF’s US TV sensation Don't Forget the Lyrics. RDF Television, part of the RDF Media Group, will produce 12 x 60' episodes of Don't Forget the Lyrics for broadcast in early 2008. The series was commissioned by Steve Jones, Commissioning Editor, Entertainment, Sky One, Two and Three.
In Don't Forget the Lyrics contestants will choose songs from different genres, decades and musical artists (e.g. Brit Pop, Boy Bands, 70’s Rock). Then they’ll take centre stage to sing alongside the live studio band as the lyrics are projected on screen – but suddenly the music will stop and the words will disappear.
“Well, tonight thank God it’s them, instead of you…” Can you sing the next line? We all think we know the lyrics to the world’s most popular songs, but when there’s £250,000 at stake, will the contestants keep on singing when the music stops? Or will they be at a loss for words?
Climbing a cash prize ladder after each correct answer the singer must decide whether to ‘Stay and Play’ or ‘ Take the Money and Run.’ Along the way, three lifelines can help them out and if they sing nine tracks correctly, one final song and up to fifteen missing words stand in their way to the £250,000 jackpot.
It’s that simple: 10 songs, 10 missing lyrics and £250,000 providing you Don't Forget the Lyrics.
Richard Woolfe, Director or Programming, Sky One, Two and Three said: "The British public are fanatical about karaoke and game shows, so Don't Forget the Lyrics is the perfect format for Sky One and is bound to mirror its success in the US when it launches here next year. The show complements our line-up of Sunday night family entertainment, sitting alongside established hits including Are You Smarter Than A 10-Year Old? I’m thrilled to have won the rights to the show and to be partnering with RDF to produce the series.”
Grant Mansfield, Managing Director, RDF Television added: “I’m delighted that Don't Forget the Lyrics has found its UK home with Sky One just as Fox has confirmed its third cycle of the hit show in the US. We are very excited about bringing the first RDF USA original format to the UK with Sky.”
Sky One has begun a search for a presenter to front Don't Forget the Lyrics.
Don't Forget the Lyrics will be Exec Produced by Steve Jones, Richard Woolfe, and Peter Usher, RDF Television’s Head of Entertainment. The series producer is John Ireland.
Don't Forget the Lyrics is an original format from RDF USA and RDF Rights hold all international rights and merchandising rights to the finished programme and format.
