ITV has announced a new three-part factual consumer series called How To Spend It At Christmas, in which Phillip Schofield invites celebrity guests, experts and members of the public to help him test the latest must-have festive gifts.

Made by RDF, a Banijay UK company, the programme aims to be the ultimate consumer guide to Christmas spending by helping viewers navigate through their festive shopping dilemmas.

Subjects will range from what to buy those hard-to-please other halves and in-laws, to whether 2017’s crucial top-selling toy really is worth the money, with guidance on the best festive food for the dinner table this year.

Each product undergoes a series of tests with the aim of finding out which is the best quality, and which represents the best value for money.

Product testers will include Phillip along with famous faces and experts, as well as members of the public from the ages of eight to 80.

They will be putting this year’s big festive sellers through their paces to review, rate and recommend them, aiming to help viewers make seasonal savings and get their Christmas all wrapped up before Santa arrives.

The series will air later this year, is executive produced by Dan Barraclough and Jim Allen, and commissioned by Priya Singh for ITV.

Dan Barraclough, Executive Producer, RDF said: “Christmas shopping is confusing at the best of times – with frantic shops, sudden sales, and presents for ageing aunts to think about. We loved the idea of creating a show which helps viewers see through the fog of bewilderment that the festive season can bring on. Phillip Schofield is the perfect presenter to cut through the confusion and help consumers see clearly.”

Priya Singh, Commissioning Editor, Factual for ITV, said: “Everyone wants to have the best Christmas ever, and ideally without going broke in the process. This new series aims to provide an essential and informative guide to help viewers decide what to spend their hard-earned cash on this christmas. We’re delighted to have Phillip as our host of what will be an inspiring and entertaining series which will hopefully help towards creating wonderful Christmases all across Britain!”
