Emergency Bikers

Five has commissioned RDF Television West to produce Emergency Bikers – an adrenaline-fuelled, factual series that follows bikers on the frontline of emergencies as they race to crashes, accidents and incidents.

 

Emergency Bikers follows the West Midlands Ambulance Service Biker Paramedics in Birmingham and the Police Biker Squad in Essex. Using small-camera technology the series shows the risks taken by bikers as they race to the scene of an incident, shaving minutes off response times to save lives and prevent crime.

 

The Birmingham bikers answer an average of four hundred calls a month. From heart attacks to car crashes; shootings to drug overdoses; trips and falls to assaults, the job is demanding and everyday is different. Complex medical abilities are required and bikers must keep their wits about them as they weave through traffic on their Yamaha FJR1300s. Despite a few narrow escapes, the squad gets to the scene in half the time it would take a traditional ambulance.

 

The County of Essex has endured one of the highest road death and seriously injured rates in the UK but the speed and agility of the police bikers has reduced this by a third, over five years. Now the squad is set to be doubled.
