Job opportunities
Do you have the skills to make popular, innovative television - from documentary to entertainment - for all major terrestrial and digital channels? If so, the Production Resources team are looking forward to hearing from you.
RDF Television are looking for the most talented people to make our top rating programmes, whether you’re a new entrant looking to start a career in the industry or an experienced Series Producer or Executive. We employ a high number of freelance creative staff each year in our offices in London and Bristol. In addition we also assist other companies in the RDF Media Group to find staff, particularly IWC Media, which has offices in Glasgow and London, and Presentable, which is based in Cardiff.
We therefore try and meet as many people as possible with a view to future employment. If you are interested in meeting one of our team, please see below, and send your CV via e-mail to the appropriate category.
All CVs from UK-based creative staff should be sent via email to Mairie MacTague, the Production Resources Manager. (Please specify if you are able to work out of Bristol, Glasgow or Cardiff for any length of time).
Please note that the following e-mail addresses are for UK-based jobs only. Do state whether you have a current EU Passport and if not, what work permit for the UK you have. In addition, tell us if you have an I Visa for the USA and how long it is valid for.
If you are interested in job opportunities at our US offices in LA and New York please email
contactus@rdfusa.com
Producers and Directors
If you're an Executive Producer, Series Producer or Producer/Director, please email your CV to
CV.ProducerDirector@rdfmedia.com.
As well as crewing up for established documentary formats like Wife Swap and The Secret Millionaire, we're also looking for staff for all genres, from factual to light entertainment.
We are particularly on the lookout for experienced Series Producers who can oversee large productions and establish new formats and Producer\Directors who have a track record of cutting fifty minute narrative-led documentary films or are able to self-shoot to broadcast standard (proven Z1, PD150, DSR500 or HD skills).
We’d rather not receive unsolicited showreels by post, but if you do send them in, please be aware that we cannot return them, although we will keep them on file for reference.
Assistant Producers
If you're an AP, please email your CV to
CV.AP@rdfmedia.com.
We are especially keen to meet APs who have proven ability to shoot on Z1, PD150, DSR 500 or HD to high broadcast standards, or who are experienced at recording and mixing sound, and who have excellent people skills with the ability to find the best contributors for our programmes.
We also need Celebrity Bookers from time to time so we do invite you to send your CV in too.
Researchers
If you are a Researcher with production experience, send your details to
CV.Researchers@rdfmedia.com. We are particularly interested in meeting researchers who have excellent contributor finding skills.
Please note that we would not take on someone as a researcher unless they have a proven production experience as a credited researcher, so if you have not as yet had that role, please send your details to the e-mail address for runners.
Runners: Interns and Cover Runners
First of all, please be aware that we only take on interns and cover runners who have left full time education so that if they show potential, hopefully we can carry they through to the first stage of their career in television production.
If you are passionate about getting into the industry and would relish the challenge and opportunity of working at RDF Television, please send your details to
CV.Runner@rdfmedia.com. Please read on to find out about what RDF offers to new entrants.
Interns
RDF Television runs a prestigious Intern Scheme for people wanting to get into the industry. We have a team of eight interns at any one time who are given a six month contract; if all goes well, they get an additional two months as a junior researcher or junior co-ordinator (depending on which path they want to follow) which gives them a solid grounding upon which to start their career.
During the initial six months, the interns' main responsibility is to keep the office running smoothly but they are attached to productions at times throughout that period when a runner is needed on them. This gives the interns valuable experience, as well as building their confidence and highlighting their skills. We also give each intern a basic Z1 camera course in their fifth month. As you can imagine, this is a much sought after training scheme and we are very selective when choosing candidates.
Cover Runners
If an intern is on a production, it is then that we need a cover runner to take their place in the office during the interns' absence, so there is plenty of demand for runners at RDF. We therefore try to meet as many people possible.
Driving: it is worth mentioning that driving is a key requirement on a lot of productions and that if you have not learned, it is worth making driving lessons a priority, as you may well miss out on production opportunities of you do not have that skill at an early stage in your career.
Although we have no vacancies for interns at the moment, as mentioned, this situation can change from week to week. For this reason we get lots of applications for these limited positions, so please make sure your covering letter is concise and that your CV is clearly laid out and with as much detail on as few pages as possible!
Work Experience
RDF Television does not offer work experience or college or university placements. Primarily, this is because our interns are given any extra jobs on production as part of their training. In addition, we only offer paid positions at RDF and those are obviously dictated by what each programme budget allows for junior members of the team..
(For information, we do however take on GCSE students for work experience, as required by the national curriculum, for a week each during the summer. The places are limited to two per week on a first come, first serve basis and we do not encourage anyone to apply as we are always oversubscribed by requests from schools via the post and these places are normally allocated by the beginning of the year..)
Production Management, Filming Crews and Post-Production
If you are a Production Manager or Production Co-ordinator please email your CV to
cv.production@rdfmedia.com. If you are a Camera Operator, Sound Recordist or Editor, please email your CV to
cv.technical@rdfmedia.com.
Multicultural Commitment
RDF has developed a large pool of multicultural talent and around a fifth of our staff is currently of ethnic origin. We are actively committed to discovering and nurturing new black and Asian professionals and to building a strong network of talent from all ethnic origins.
